INTRO TECHNICAL ANALYSIS
Day Trading E-mini S&P 500 futures
Because fundamental factors that can drive a market, such as earnings reports, national employment and retail sales, are released relatively infrequently (monthly or quarterly), much of the price movement throughout the day of the E-mini® S&P 500® futures reflects technical considerations. Consequently, the E-mini day trader needs to be aware of the tools of technical analysis.

Technical analysts look for patterns or formations in prices that persist over time and then attempt to exploit that information to predict future price movements. Most technical analysis can be applied to day trading simply by reducing the time interval over which calculations are made. For example, instead of using a daily bar chart, the E-mini S&P 500 day trader might use a bar chart calculated every 15-minutes. Moving averages can similarly be calculated over short time periods.

This one-hour, audio-visual tutorial from the Online Trading Academy provides a comprehensive overview of technical analysis and covers topics such as:

  • Types of Charts
  • Trends and Channels
  • Support and Resistance
